On December 17, 1848, William Wynn Westcott was born - a ceremonial magician, freemason (member of the United Grand Lodge of England), one of the founders of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, member of the Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia.
William Wynn Westcott was born in Royal Leamington Spa on December 11, 1848. He became a doctor of medicine, worked as a coroner.
In 1871, William Wynn Westcott began active in Freemasonry. He also became a Master of “Quatuor Coronati” research Lodge from 1893 to 1894.
After the death of William Robert Woodman, William Wynn Westcott became the head of the Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia.
In 1887, together with Samuel Liddell Mathers and William Robert Woodman, he founded the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. The magic motto of William Winn Westcott was “Sapere Aude”.
In 1896, Winn Westcott was forced to cease his public activities in the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn due to the pressure exerted on him because of his work as a coroner. However, he continued his activities in S.R.I.A., and later joined Stella Matutina.
In 1910, William Wynn Westcott resigned as coroner in 1918 and emigrated to South Africa. He died in 1925 in Durban.
